The Printed Selling Message – E. B. Eddy Specialty Papers, Carl Dair, 1949
Notes
The Eveleigh-Dair Studio had already been designing advertising and promotional material for The E. B. Eddy Company for three years when they produced this full page ad for the First Annual of Advertising and Editorial Art. Purely typographic and completely free of design clichés this is one of the most powerful ads in that first annual. Weaving the message within a 9.5 inch tall Bodoni ‘E’ designer Carl Dair talks about the importance of paper to printing while also listing some of the quality papers offered by E. B. Eddy. Dair cleverly exploited the strong graphic quality of a common letterform to create an ad that still commands attention. – Rod McDonald
